Mayor Marty Walsh will institute a snow emergency and parking ban for Boston at 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2. The latest winter storm Mother Nature decided to audaciously drop on Boston is expected to accumulate 8 to 14 inches of snow. Boston Public Schools will also be closed.

“We are still in recovery mode from the recent blizzard and I want to thank residents for their patience as we prepare for the upcoming winter storm,” Mayor Walsh said in a statement. “With up to 14 inches of snow expected, please remember to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and always put safety first.”

Residents with parking permits are expected to relocate their cars to one of the designated parking areas and garages available using the map above. According to the City of Boston, the Boston Transportation Department was able to open up an additional 15,000 free or discounted spaces thanks to work with with private parking lot and garage owners in the city.

As was the case with Winter Storm Juno, the Public Works Department will put upwards of 600 pieces of snow removal equipment on the roads along with more than 20,000 tons of salt.

It appears as though this latest storm will be a nuisance for Greater Boston, especially since it’s adding to two feet of snow. But it’s unlikely to render the kind of damage Juno did. Gov. Charlie Baker estimated that Juno left as much as $30 million worth of damages in its wake, though luckily no fatalities were reported as a result.
