Boston-centric auctions seem to be all the rage today. After a rare collection of John F. Kennedy keepsakes sold for as much as $108,000 apiece, it seems one lucky Red Sox fan is hoping to make just as much bank, if not more. Nick Wood, a 23-year-old student at the University of Rhode Island, hailing from Westborough, Mass., caught Shane Victorino’s grand slam ball that propelled the Sox to the Fall Classic in dramatic fashion and is selling the leather-woven gem at auction.

As noted by CBS Boston, SPC Auctions will be selling off the ball to the highest bidder though there’s no indication from the organization, its current catalog, or from Wood on a potential starting price.

In a general statement, Wood acknowledged that “As much of a fan as I am, I’m not really a memorabilia collector. This auction will hopefully allow a collector or maybe even a museum to preserve and display the ball for years to come.”

Wood was in prime position to capitalize on Victorino’s good wood, snatching the ball out of the sky thanks to his stellar Green Monster seats.

The auction is set to run from November 20 through December 7. It’s safe to assume it’s value will substantially skyrocket should the Sox bring their third world series in 10 years back home to The Hub.
