The production team behind the ‘Boston Strong’ drama is coming together. Variety reported on Tuesday that 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the film. Daniel Espinosa (‘Safe House’) is in talks to direct.

While it was reported earlier this fall that Casey Affleck was going to be producing and starring in the film, his deal fell through. While in Boston during a Q&A, Affleck confirmed he wasn’t tied to the film. Instead, the movie will be produced by Hutch Parker and Dorothy Aufiero, and there’s no word yet on who will be starring in the film.

The ‘Boston Strong’ movie will be based on the events immediately following the 2013 Boston Marathon, including the manhunt that ensued to find the two believed to be responsible for the bombings. The screenplay, written by Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy (‘The Fighter’), will be adapted from the book by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.

According to Variety, EOne Television was in the works to develop the story for a TV miniseries in April, but that never came together.

It’s not clear yet when production for ‘Boston Strong’ will officially begin.
