It hasn’t been this cold in Boston since 2004, according to the National Weather Service – which, for some reason, thought that sort of information would be appropriate to share at 6 a.m. on a Monday morning. And, as if -3 wasn’t cold enough by itself, the morning wind chill has bottomed-out at an absurd -25 degrees.

Those going outside be warned: these frigid temperatures could lead to frostbite in just ten minutes.

Even without Monday morning’s arctic blast of nonsense, February 2015 has been one of the coldest on record. On average, the temperature in Boston this month has been 19.6 degrees, which makes this the second coldest February on record.

The average February 2015 temperature is a full degree lower than what it was in 1885 – the third coldest February in Boston history. Thankfully, 2015 hasn’t been quite as cold as February 1934, which, with an average temperature of 17.5 degrees, remains the coldest February the Hub has experienced.
