Thanksgiving is just one week away and if you haven’t solidified your travel plans for turkey day, you best do so immediately. We warned you back in September to book your flight as early as possible in order to try and keep your wallet as bloated as you hope to be next Thursday. But if you’re reading this, you probably didn’t heed to our advice. And that’s okay, because we’re about to hit you with some more.

Google recently unveiled trends determined from two-years worth of Google Maps data that shows the best traffic insights for your Thanksgiving road trip. Though traffic this time of year actually decreased between 2012 and 2013, I don’t think I have to tell you how hellish the gridlock can be around the city.

As you’ll see in the infographic below per Google’s data, the absolute worst day to hit the road to seek your stuffing and pumpkin pie is…

Drumroll please…

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving. While that might not be an overwhelming shock, consider that everyone else jams the road the Wednesday prior.

The data also signals that the worst time to travel in Boston is between 3pm and 4pm, if you so choose to drive on Wednesday. The optimal hours are before 1pm and after 5pm.

On the tail end, heading back to Boston can be an equally frustrating experience. Data indicates, however, that traffic is about 20 percent worse on Saturday than Sunday.

So before you think about undoing your belt at the table, plan on buckling your seatbelt on Tuesday or before.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends.
