Welcome to the first week of December folks. Believe it or not the holiday season is already upon us and that means it’s time to start donning those tacky sweaters, listening to more Mariah and sippin’ on spiked hot chocolate.

To help throw you headfirst into the holiday season, we’ve planned out some seasonal weekend getaways for the month of December. And this weekend is no exception. If you’re looking to pack your car last minute and head out of town (do it), then we recommend driving in the direction of Newport, Rhode Island. That’s because the town’s 43rd Annual Christmas in Newport, RI celebration will be happening all month long. And if you go, here’s what to do this weekend.

Stay Here

The Vanderbilt Grace

41 Mary Street, Newport, RI

I recommend staying at this lovely retreat mostly because of its amazing location and close proximity to downtown Newport. You won’t have to travel far to experience all of the holiday madness happening in and around town.

For dinner head to the Polar Express Train Ride

No, seriously – this exists. If you’re really looking to get into the holiday spirit, why not climb aboard and have dinner on the Newport Dinner Train at 4 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Silly? Yes. But fun? Definitely.
