This weekend, you may decide to escape the city and skip the Head of the Charles (as well as the craziness that will surely ensue). And if you do, then I recommend shucking off at Cape Cod’s Wellfleet OysterFest. After all, what could be more awesome than an (almost) unlimited oyster supply, booze and live music? I can’t think of anything either.

Not only do the food and festivities alone make the trip worth the drive, but it’s also the perfect excuse for a last-minute Cape Cod getaway. And, due to changes in the weather (le sigh), it’s also probably the last Cape trip for the year.

Stay Here:

Oyster Cove B&B On Wellfleet Harbor

This bed and breakfast located on Wellfleet Harbor offers eco-friendly tourists a hidden escape within Cape Cod. The views from the B&B are fantastic and allow you to see Indian Neck, Great Island, the town Marina and Chipmans Cove, which is home to the Wellfleet oysters you’ll soon be shucking. After taking in the views, it’s time to shuck-off at the Wellfleet OysterFest.

Go Here and Eat Here:

Wellfleet OysterFest

Get ready for a shucktastic time in Wellfleet this weekend.. The two-day festival will include the Annual Oyster Shuck-Off competition, activities such as oyster reef tours, dance parties and even a skateboard competition. In addition, there will be live entertainment from several bands, 16 food vendors, 12 raw bars and a few culinary programs for your enjoyment.

Normally, I would include suggestions for where to go and enjoy the best local food, but I’m fairly certain this festival has you covered. If you’re going to eat anywhere in Wellfleet this weekend, it should certainly be at the OysterFest. There will plenty of lobster rolls, clam chowder bowls and (of course) oysters to go around. Vendors include Moby Dick’s, Wicked Oyster, Mac’s Seafood, Boathouse Fish Market and Flying Fish Cafe, among a dozen others. This is definitely a weekend getaway made for seafood fans. Check out ticket information and deets on their website.
