Though weather news has been largely dominated by coverage of one of the snowiest seasons on record for Boston, on Monday it’s all about the temperatures. This morning Bostonians and residents of the Greater Metro Area can expect freezing cold weather the likes of which hasn’t been seen in more than a decade.

A winter chill warning is in effect by the National Weather Service, which is warning people of temperatures feeling as cold as 30 degrees below zero due to wind chill. It will remain in effect until 10 a.m. Monday morning.

Wind gusts are expected to be between 10 and 20 mph with some reaching as high as 45 mph.

For people who plan on spending their President’s Day outside of their homes, be sure to bundle up. The risk of frostbite is significant and any exposed skin can be subjected to it in as quickly as 10 minutes, warns the NWS.

If you are heading out, be sure to dress in layers and to specifically cover your hands and face.

Monday morning is going to be so cold, in fact, that WBZ Boston contends it’s the coldest morning we’ve had in the past 10 years.

Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Friday that the Commonwealth will release over $13 million in federal funding to help 180,000 eligible families pay their heating bills.

“In this especially cold and unprecedented winter for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, these funds will be important to seeing our families have the assistance they need to stay warm,” said Gov. Baker in a statement. “We will continue to work with the legislature to ensure Massachusetts’ vulnerable families have the proper heating resources available.”
