The BRA is scheduled to host a community meeting tonight to discuss a new Government Center Garage project.

HYM Investment Group’s Government Center project has 2.4 million square-feet of development planned, including nearly 800 residential units, 200 hotel rooms, over one million square feet of office space, 80,000 square feet of retail and close to 1,200 new parking spots.

Construction will be multi-phased, featuring the destruction of a large chunk of the the garage over Congress Street, which, the HYM notes, will bring daylight to the street for the first time in 40 years. The garage will be replaced with an “above-grade” garage featuring a pedestrian-friendly streetscape, public and mixed-use buildings, located on two separate blocks, over 4.8 acres.

The West Parcel will feature apartment complexes on New Sudbury Street and Congress Street, as well as office space on New Chardon Street.

East Parcel will include an office building, a boutique retail building, and a hotel/condominium development, all of which will help connect the Bulfinch Triangle, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, and Congress Street.bu

The Government Center redevelopment was recently downsized, with office buildings reducing their planned height. In the process, however, the total number of planned residences increased to 812.

HYM Investment Group is backing the project and anticipates that construction will begin next year.

Tonight’s meeting on the fifth floor of City Hall will go from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is open to the public.
