It’s no secret that Somerville’s Union Square neighborhood is quickly becoming a hot spot for Boston’s trendiest residents. From Bronwyn to Back Bar, there’s no shortage of first-class food and cocktails to be found. And now, it looks as though Union Square will be home to yet another unique restaurant concept – Brass Union Restaurant & Bar.

According to a release, the New York City-style tavern will be moving into the former Precinct restaurant space in early June. The front of Brass Union’s restaurant and bar area will be the “stage for a New York City-style tavern reminiscent of days of yore,” states the release. And the rear space of the restaurant will encompass an interactive lounge experience with a 14-foot shuffleboard court and a vintage tabletop PAC-MAN video game.

You can expect brass accents, expansive bar seating framed by wooden gargoyle fixtures that once “lined the bar area of the Capital Grille’s original Boston location on Newbury Street,” the release claims. In the lounge area you’ll find tufted leather sofas, antique-style chairs, and ornate tables.

As far as food goes, Executive Chef Jonathan Kopacz’s Brass Union menu will encompass American-style seasonal small plates. Some highlights include roasted Natural Chicken, Spicy Bay Scallops, Steak Tartare, and Pulled Beef Brisket Sandwich.

Paulo Pereira, an accomplished mixologist, will curate the cocktail program at Brass Union. The bar will offer “cocktails on draft” and housemade sodas as well as rotating seasonal beer offerings. According to a release, some of the craft cocktails you can expect include The Citadel (sherry, Maurin Quina, honey syrup, dash of dandelion Burdock bitters); Rum & Smoke (Bully Boy aged rum, smoked lime juice, Orgeat, Ginjinha, maraschino cherry garnish); Esqueleto (Reposado tequila, coffee syrup, Luxardo Maraschino, lemon, chili peppers, topped with passion fruit soda); and Green Line Extension (bourbon, brandy, green chartreuse, sugar cube, bitters).

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about Brass Union’s opening date – but in the meantime, get excited for shuffleboard and cocktails coming your way soon!
