Creator Vince Gilligan says the Breaking Bad spinoff is “full speed ahead.” While it is not yet official, the new show would feature crooked lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and be titled “Better Call Saul.”

In an interview with TheWrap.com, Gilligan proposed widely varying formats for the spinoff: a traditional half-hour comedy or an hour-long drama, true to Breaking Bad‘s form. Saul Goodman as the main man allows the spinoff more leeway from a comedic standpoint, while his clients pose some dramatic elements. It has already been reported that Giancarlo Esposito, or “Gus,” can be counted in for a prequel spinoff.

Gilligan would appoint Producer Peter Gould to run the show about Goodman, who was merely a recurring character in season two and become a vital cast member from the third season on. The final eight episodes of the seven-time Emmy winning AMC series begin on August 11, so Gilligan’s statement comes just in time for a highly anticipated finale.

“You never know, when the dust settles at the end of our final eight episodes, where everybody’s gonna be and who’s gonna be left standing,” Gilligan said.

And as Gilligan was quick to note, there not even a guarantee that Saul Goodman will survive the finale to move on to a spinoff. As we know, all bad things must come to an end, right?
