Back in July, Lena Dunham sought out local talent to open her show in each city where she would be taking her “Not That Kind of Girl” book tour. The requirements from each applicant were that they be located within 75 miles of the city to which they were applying, that their act be between 3 and 5 minutes and require a limited set, like a lone microphone.

The deadline to submit was on August 1, and now, with Dunham’s Boston show at The Wilbur coming up right around the corner on October 2, she’s announced her opening performers. Here in Boston, the lucky winners were BU’s all-female a cappella group, Chordially Yours.

Dunham announced the winners on Monday via Twitter, and late last night, the group posted the news on their website. Understandably so, these girls are excited. The announcement read:

Most of the Chords are freaking out about the possibility of touching LENA DUNHAM, but really, we are so honored to have been selected and are pumped to spread girl power to the world!! (Or at least, everyone in the Wilbur Theatre on October 2nd).

As Dunham herself is a female powerhouse, we can understand the “girl power” connection. Perhaps Dunahm is also a fan of the hit a cappella movie Pitch Perfect? (It’s not clear whether any of them will actually get to touch her, though.)

Chordially Yours, judging by their YouTube archive, tend to remake pop songs like Beyonce’s “Halo” and fun.’s “Some Nights,” along with classics like Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).” And one of their mashups between Fountains of Wayne’s “Stacy’s Mom” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” was included in their audition video, according to Boston Magazine.

Dunham’s tour will stop at The Wilbur on October 2 and will be presented by Brookline Booksmith. Tickets are currently sold out, but there are resale tickets available on Ticketmaster. Meanwhile, Dunham’s book, “Not That Kind of Girl,” will be released on September 30. She’s expected to read excerpts from her book during her tour, which will also stop in Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Pasadena and San Francisco.
