If your weekend plans have you traveling in, around, and, over (especially over) the Longfellow Bridge, be prepared for a slower commute.

With construction workers preparing the tracks for some much needed repairs, buses will replace trains along the Longfellow Bridge — between the Red Line’s Kendall/MIT station and Park Street. MassDot will not allow any other motor vehicles over the bridge Oct. 26-Oct. 27 but you can check out the bus map here.

The same restrictions will be in effect Nov. 2-Nov. 3.

Biking also won’t be an option; cyclists will be asked to walk their bikes across the bridge for safety purposes.

On Saturday, alternating single-lane closures eastbound on Memorial Drive will be in effect while construction takes place on the above roadway. Pedestrians traveling eastbound on Memorial will be detoured to the westbound side, temporarily.

The work is part of the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project which — over the course of three and a half years — will address structural deficiencies, and bring the bridge up to modern code.
