Belgian fashion house Maison Martin Margiela is known for being extremely private. But the elusive label just announced that John Galliano, one of the industry’s most in-your-face figureswill take over the creative direction of its couture and ready-to-wearIn recent years, the design team has remained completely anonymous, so hiring someone so publicly known is an unexpected move.

“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” Renzo Rosso, President of OTB, the parent company of Maison Martin Margiela, shared with WWD. “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time — a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create and wish him to here find his new home.”

His return to the runway at Paris Couture Week in January will definitely be closely watched. After years of untapped creativity following his departure from Christian Dior, I can only imagine how epic of a comeback it will be.
