There are times when an inspirational talk is needed to boost the spirits of the troops – the Callahan Tunnel closure is one that comes to mind. BostInno can’t do that for you. But we’ll try to prepare you for Trafficalypse (that’s a working title that’s probably been overused) as best as possible.

Just a reminder: the Callahan Tunnel will close tonight, Friday, December 27 at 11 p.m.. The closure is scheduled to last through March 12. In response, MassDOT has provided the following list of detours:

There will also be temporary schedule changes for MBTA Bus Routes 424, 434, and 450, that will take effect on December 30.

Additionally, there will be a detour for those entering the City from points north tonight, in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., due to the Interstate 93 closure in Somerville. This route will close so Callahan Tunnel workers can prep for the project, and cars will be ushered off I-93 at Exit 28 and allowed to reenter at the Haymarket on-ramp, MassDOT officials told the Boston Globe. Airport traffic will be redirected through the City’s streets, through the Ted Williams Tunnel.

Workers will install detour signs to notify oncoming traffic.

The MBTA will also be doing its part, expanding the hours of the Blue Line Bowdoin Station stop on weekdays and Saturdays from 5:15 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and on Sundays from 6:15 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. An extra Blue Line train will be in service weekday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On the Silver Line 1, one extra bus will operate between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays.

The MBTA is urging those traveling to the airport to take the Logan Express or public transit.

Ferries from Quincy/Hull and Boston will also provide trips to the airport.

Prep ’em, Al…
