Getting to the Pats game on Sunday maybe got a little easier, thanks to mTicket.

Last year, the MBTA began offering mobile ticket purchasing via the mTicket app. Now, customers heading to Gillette can purchase “Boston football train tickets” in advance for all Patriots home games. Round trip fare costs $15 dollars.

Affordable and convenient.

The MBTA provides commuter rail train service to the Foxborough station on game days and during special events. Once you factor in the 15 minute walk to the station, your total travel time from South Station to Gillette via commuter rail is about an hour, give or take.

The only problem for the “football train” is the capacity; this service is limited to 1800 passengers on one train to and from  South Station and one to and from TF Green airport.

That’s a maximum of 3,600 potential fans, heading to a stadium that sits 68,756. Tickets are hard to come by. And good luck trying to navigate the ticket booth in a mad dash to get to the stadium with kickoff only a few hours away. Advanced mobile ticket purchasing should make this task less nauseating.

Pats have six more home games this year, not counting the playoffs. They host the New Orleans Saints at 4:25 this Sunday. Trains will leave South Station at 1:45, and TF Green at 1:30. Full schedule here.

You know this guy is excited.
