Well folks, it looks like the controversial (albeit delicious) fast-food chain, Chick-fil-A is opening today in nearby Chicopee.

Robert Hewes, Operator of the Chicopee Chick-fil-A franchise, announced on the website: “Our Grand Opening is Feb. 20, 2014. Hope you can make it!”

The location is adding to the already “more than 1,700 locations in 39 states and Washington, D.C.,” according to Masslive.com.

The article also reported that, according to Hewes, guests should expect “great fanfare with giveaways,” for the first 100 customers through the door – they’ll all be receiving “one Chick-fil-A meal a week for a year.”

And while Chick-fil-A indisputably serves up some of the best fast-food (and chicken biscuits) ever, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea (sweet tea, that is.). Here in Massachusetts, the popular chain won’t exactly be welcomed with open arms.

As most of you remember, the fast-food chain found itself in hot water back in 2012 over the company’s position against same-sex marriage. And as former Mayor Tom Menino so firmly put it in his letter to Chick-fil-A president, Dan Cathy “… There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it.”

Bold and brave – the statement certainly shared a very heartfelt, strong sentiment felt by many Bostonians.

Despite the controversy, Hewes believes that “Cathy’s statements are the opinions of one man. Chick-fil-A stands for hospitality and customer service.” And according to Masslive.com “that’s what he plans to deliver.”

What do you think – is the nearby Chicopee Chick-fil-A location too close for comfort to the Hub?
