Amidst glass buildings and construction sites, The Seaport District is bringing some home-y cheer to the area this year. On Tuesday, Dec. 9, the neighborhood will host their first-ever Seaport Holiday Tree lighting. And they aren’t starting small — the tree on display at Maritime Park will be 17 feet tall.

“It is a wonderful way to bring this growing community of residents, commuting workers and business owners together to celebrate the spirit of the holidays,” said Dusty Rhodes, tree lighting coordinator and president of Conventures, Inc.

If you want to check out the tree lighting, head down to Maritime Park (intersection of D Street and Seaport Boulevard) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Rumor has it Santa Claus will make an appearance, so make sure to bring the little ones. Free cider, hot cocoa and cookies with be provided, along with live music from the Downtown Boston Brass and Sweet Harmony.

In the true holiday spirit, the tree lighting will also host a Toys for Tots drive. Starting at noon that afternoon, toys will be collected at 75 Liberty Wharf across from the park. New, unwrapped toy donations will be collected at the lighting as well.
