Coachella 2013 is upon us, commencing the start of perhaps the most magnanimous music festival in the country with 150 performers, as the ball starts rolling for festival season with summer lingering just around the corner. In Indio, California, it’s basically summer already: temperatures are predicted to reach the 90s this weekend, as if the body heat and claustrophobia of 80,000 music fans wasn’t stuffy enough.
Coachella 2013 sticks around for two weekends, and the first (April 12-14) starts on Friday at 11:40 a.m. Pacific Standard Time with a set by The Stone Roses. The performance lineup is stacked pretty high on each day, so if you are attending the festival, plan ahead. It’s impossible to see all of it, or even almost all of it, but Coachella’s website has crafted “Coachooser,” which allows guests to build their own personal lineup from the 150 bands slated to perform throughout the duration of the festival.
If you’re not able to attend, you can follow the performances live at the festival’s YouTube page. And don’t worry if you have yet to make it out to Coachella; you have time. Last week, a deal was announced that will keep the festival going in its Southern Cal location until at least 2030, and will expand the capacity from the current 80,000 mark to 99,000. Better start saving, though: each year sees a hike in festival pass prices. This year, a pass would set you back $349.
