Apparently the cursive I learned in elementary school is outdated.
The newest push in education? Coding. And this week – backed by the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Ashton Kutcher, and the POTUS himself – computer science education website Code.org is making that clear. Introducing “The Hour of Code,” an initiative which encourages schools to teach their students coding (not cursive) for an hour this week.
“Don’t just buy a new video game – make one,” Obama speaks out. “Don’t just download the latest app – help design it.”
Now ladies, here’s where you come in: According to ELLE, “By 2020, there are expected to be one million jobs in tech and programming. But while 57% of bachelor’s degrees are earned by women, only 12% of computer science degrees are held by women.” Which means tech jobs (like this company) are going to need you. Lots of you.
