CounterTack, a provider of in-progress cyber intelligence and response solutions, has just announced that it has raised $9.5 million in Series A funding and is moving their headquarters to Waltham. The new round of funding was led by Fairhaven Capital and a private group of investors. With the increased threat of cyber attacks and the constant need for large companies to protect sensitive data, CounterTack is attacking an enormous market.

“CounterTack is the culmination of NeuralIQ’s ground-breaking innovation and advanced development of intelligence and active defense tools for cyber security,” said Neal Creighton, CEO of CounterTack. “By applying virtualization technology to information security, CounterTack will bring to market unprecedented levels of network intelligence to identify and mitigate the impact of in-progress cyber attacks.”

Their approach is to improve corporations intelligence enabling them to respond to attacks faster. By sitting on the host, CounterTack enables users to see the network traffic coming in and out allowing them to identify threats earlier than ever before.

In addition to the funding announcement, CounterTack has completely re-structured their executive team. CounterTack named Neal Creighton as CEO and Alen Capalik as founder and chief architect. John Worrall has been named executive vice president of product management and marketing and John Adams as chief technology officer. Rounding out the executive management team is Robert Potter, senior vice president of sales, and Jim Harrison, chief financial officer.

Founded as NeuralIQ in 2004 in Virginia, the company re-launched as CounterTack in 2011, building upon the vision and innovation of NeuralIQ. Based in Waltham, Mass., the privately held company currently has about 50 employees and is currently looking to expand.
