In my mind, food fads aren’t entirely unlike Apple products. There’s always a new one coming out, and just when I’ve managed to get my hands on the latest version, another one surfaces and sends me scrambling for my next fix. (More often than not, there’s a long line involved, too.) Enter: the Crogel, 2014?s answer to last year’s Cronut™ craze.

A heartier, more carb-heavy cousin of the Cronut, the Crogel is, as you might have guessed, a croissant-bagel hybrid. (Repeat after me: Buttery. Flaky. Layers.) As reported on Gothamist, the Crogel actually popped up in the bakery of a Norwalk, Connecticut, supermarket earlier this year and is now getting its time in the spotlight. Don’t live anywhere near Norwalk? Fear not. If history is any indication, word of the Crogel – and knockoff versions of it (I’m looking at you, Cragel) – will soon spread like wildfire. In the meantime, you can find me in line, killing time on my out-of-date iPhone® 5.

Head on over to Gothamist to read more about the birth of this marvelous baked good.
