Boston has been dubbed a tough city to make friends by multiple transplants, for a variety of reasons. Sure, sometimes locals can be exclusive and cliquey, but a new exhibit aims to turn that notion on its head. Design Museum Boston, a boutique gallery located in what could someday soon be this massive development complex (with retractable roof, mind you), is offering 600 complimentary pieces of artwork on Friday, August 1.

This idea of complimentary, of course,  is twofold in that the art is free for the taking and that each print features one of six terms of endearment, with specialized typography courtesy of graphic artist Rob Lowe – not that Rob Lowe, this Rob Lowe, also known as Supermundane to those of you entrenched in Boston’s art scene.

According to the museum, such compliments like “I think you’re fabulous” and “you’re spectacular” will be among the praise and flattery. And keep in mind: these are limited edition prints. In fact, just 100 of each of the six designs will be singed by Lowe, personally.

To bring these renderings into fruition, Lowe teamed up with the museum and Boston-based MOO, whose arsenal of premium products ranges from business cards and letterheads to stickers to postcards. MOO is the company who graciously printed Lowe’s artistic flyers to the benefit of us all.

The exhibit will be open to the public on Friday, August 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the Museum’s popular First Friday event. The museum notes it will be easy for the crowds to find, as there will be a full display of the artworks in its 8’ x 10’ window.

See you there.
