Providence-based DiJiPOP has one of the wildest stories here in New England, and it just keeps getting better. Founder and CEO Ji Kim won $200,000 in the Connecticut Lottery and used it to seed and launch his company this past October. In December DiJiPOP raised additional capital, and today the company is announcing some serious validation: Walmart Canada is a now a customer.

DiJiPOP, among the first graduating class of Providence’s Betaspring incubator, has built online shopping marketing technology. Currently in the physical store realm, brands pay top dollar to ensure their products have prime real estate on shelves, usually right at a shopper’s eye level. DiJiPOP has taken this retailing concept online, matching retailers’ digital  shelf space with brand and advertiser marketing dollars.

Read: retailers can now create a new, high-margin revenue stream (regardless if a shopper actually makes a purchase – which, according to DiJiPOP, is 97% of visitors), and advertisers have the opportunity to pay top dollar to increase awareness closer to a shopper’s point of purchase.

“Walmart Canada is committed to giving its customers and its vendors the best in-store experience, and with the rapidly growing number of shoppers on our website, it is important that we provide the same excellence online,” said Sean Coutts, general manager of Walmart Canada. “DiJiPOP will allow us to more effectively control and monetize each product shelf, while also providing our vendors with impactful paid-placement options. We are pleased to have found a unique technology that not only enables us to streamline the implementation of the entire digital shopper marketing process, but also provides us with such scale. It’s a model that will be closely looked at for global adoption.”

DiJiPOP will integrate directly with Walmart Canada’s existing vendor portal, allowing vendors to reserve shelf space with ease through the same interface. Dubbed POP Technology, DiJiPOP’s product will enable Walmart.ca to control its digital shelf space in both ecommerce and mobile environments, including what placements they offer, campaign submission approval, and even measurement of campaign effectiveness.

“Walmart’s reputation for technology innovation and leadership is unparalleled in the retail industry,” said Ji Kim, founder and CEO of DiJiPOP in today’s press release. “The fact that Walmart Canada chose the DiJiPOP digital shopper marketing platform to lead the digital shelf space monetization efforts for Walmart.ca is a powerful validation of not only our technology, but our mission as a whole – making digital shopper marketing efficient and valuable for retailers and brands.”

Congrats to DiJiPOP, continuing to help the Northeast lead in e-commerce innovation!
