Ease into Sunday mornings with a relaxing trip out to Spectacle Island for FREE Jazz on the Porch with Berklee College of Music’s Summer in the City concert series.   Grab your friends and head on down to Long Wharf to get the boat to Spectacle Island.  The concerts start around 1:00, so you may want to get to Spectacle Island a little early to grab the prime Adirondack chairs on the porch.  Don’t worry- there’s a Starbucks at the Long Wharf Marriott for your Sunday morning boost.

The performers from Berklee College of Music vary each week and are most certainly NOT your grandparents’ jazz.  Depending on the performers, you could hear influences of Latin, fusion, R & B, hip hop, or rock.  And who knows? These students may be the next big thing, and you can gloat to all your friends that you saw them before they were big!  Recent notable Berklee College of Music students have included Juan Mejía’s Conspiracy. If you are feeling nostalgic or want to add to your next #tbt playlist, some notable 90’s favorites that went to Berklee College of Music include: Nasty Candombe ProjectN&P Colombian DuoJosu Ortiz Latin Jazz Quartet, and Foreign Hues

Once you have arrived on the island you have a few options.  If you arrive early enough you can hike up to the North Drumlin (the tallest point in Boston Harbor) and take in the views of the city or surrounding islands.  You could also just lie out on the beach and attempt to get rid of those awkward tan lines.  If all of this sounds like too much for a Sunday morning, go right ahead and stake out a spot on the porch and relax and let the concert come to you. For those on the struggle bus that early on a Sunday morning and forgot to pack a lunch, Rita’s Seaglass Café has you covered!

Jazz on the Porch happens every Sunday on Spectacle Island from 1:00-3:30 for the months of July and August.  We hope to see y’all out there!
