Hopefully, you vowed to clean up your closet as well as your diet at the beginning of this year, and if you followed through, you probably have a pile of extra, unwanted clothing hanging around. Wondering what to do with those items you no longer use? If you donate them to Fashion Project before February 1, you can earn Simon gift cards in return.

The locally founded organization for making clothing donations easier has teamed up again with Simon and Copley Place to both gather items, give to charity and reward those giving their stuff away. From now until February 1, those interested can pick up a Fashion Project donation bag at the Simon Mall Guest Services (located on the first floor), fill it up with items to donate, and then return it to Copley Place’s donation boxes.

The bags will then be sent to Fashion Project’s headquarters (which recently relocated to the Seaport), and the items will be sorted. In order to be accepted, the clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories must be in great or near new condition, and be from the list of qualifying brands, available on Fashion Project’s website.

Fashion Project then sells the items, donating 55 percent of those proceeds to a charity of the donor’s choice. Charities benefiting from Fashion Project include the American Heart Association, the Ellie Fund and the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Not only do you get to benefit local charities by donating, but through Fashion Project’s partnership with Simon, you’ll receive an added boost. For every five accepted items you donate, you’ll receive a $20 Simon gift card.

Didn’t have motivation to rid your closet of everything you no longer wear? Thanks to Fashion Project and Simon, now you do.
