The 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show doesn’t air until December 10, but its taping at the Lexington Avenue Armory on Wednesday was no secret. And why would it be? Sure, there are a few up-and-coming labels trying to climb the lingerie ladder, but could you name but one? The hierarchy is clear, and these Angels have nothing to hide.

The stars of this meticulously planned publicity stunt? Well, in the past it’s been the VS Angels – and their architecturally stunning costumes. But with multiple performances by Taylor Swift (lassoing in an entire generation of about-to-hit-puberty shoppers, no doubt), Fall Out Boy, and what looked like a troupe of professional dancers, it’s distracting to say the least. So, is it too much?
Well, of course it is. It always has been. But when it’s distracting to the point where six-foot-tall feather wings and $15-million-dollar bras no longer leave me awestruck, that might be the year I tune out early.
