With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, everyone has romance on the mind. And for those of us who are single, a first date might be on the horizon. But with that prospect comes the burning question: What should I wear?

Luckily, Rue Assistant Stylist Lindsay T. is taking away all your what-to-wear jitters – right down to the very last bangle and belt. So getting a second date? Pretty much guaranteed.

Men
Skip the suit and step away from all sporting attire. Instead, play it safe with classic dark-wash jeans, polished boots, and a casual sweater. Then, toss on a laid-back blazer (try one with elbow patches) and a leather belt in the same shade as your shoes for an effortlessly gentlemanly look.

Women
No need to get super dolled up for the very first date – you want the other person to get a feel for who you really are. Slip on some curve-hugging skinnies and polished pumps. Then top it off with a bright, notice-me top and a structured blazer. The finishing touch? A statement necklace that draws attention to your eyes.
