In case you were planning to head over to the Seaport District for lunch today, be warned. Due to the ongoing Tsarnaev trial media circus, there are currently no food trucks at the usual Seaport Boulevard food truck spot.

Ian So, CEO of The Chicken and Rice Guys, told BostInno that the City of Boston sent out an email back in December to let food trucks know of the changes. Per the Transportation Department, Boston food trucks can no longer park along the Seaport Boulevard stretch. These spots are instead being given to media vehicles – temporarily – during the Tsarnaev trial.

For reference, jury selection for the trial started this Monday, January 5. The trial is set to start on January 26 and is estimated to last roughly three to four months. So hopefully, we can expect to see the food trucks back on that stretch of the Seaport by the spring.

Yesterday, The Chicken and Rice Guys took to Reddit Boston, posting:

“Boston has told food trucks that the Seaport Boulevard food truck spot will be given to media vehicles for the duration of the Tsarnaev trial. As such, ourselves, and other food trucks may be in need of temporary spots to vend at. If you work for a company that has a privately owned parking lot, or road, food trucks can get a temporary license from the city/town to vend at that location!”

We’ll have to wait and see where these food trucks end up – but hopefully, they can find a spot to hold them over until the trial has ended.

[Update: According to Hub Food Trucks, “it looks like an alternative location has been found for food trucks.” We’ll be sure update the piece as we learn more.]
