Fox is reportedly considering launching a miniseries based on the tragic Boston Marathon bombing and its unnerving aftermath. According to both Deadline and Vulture, Fox is in talks with director Rod Lurie for a project based on the book Long Mile Home by Boston Globe reporters Scott Helman and Jenna Russell.

The literary work, which was published around the one-year anniversary of the catastrohpe that rocked Boylston Street, focuses on five individuals who witnessed the domestic attack first-hand.

As noted by the book’s publisher Dutton, owned by Penguin, much of the literature emphasizes “the preparations of the bombers; the glory of the race; the extraordinary emergency response to the explosions; the massive deployment of city, state, and federal law enforcement personnel; and the nation’s and the world’s emotional and humanitarian response before, during, and after the apprehension of the suspects.”

How well the story is adapted on the tube remains to be seen. If it’s half as good as the book, which the Washington Post reviewed as “a tautly written page-turner,” Fox should be satisfied.

Given that Lurie, a former investigative journalist and now successful TV writer/director who’s worked on shows like Line of Fire and Commander in Chief, as well as acclaimed feature films like The Contender, will be teaming up with producer Basil Iwanyk, who’s done the Boston-based The Town amongst others, the series should turn out well.

Deadline notes that Lurie is working on the script now and aims to make it as accurate as possible. He told Deadline, “In this case the accurate story is a phenomenal story.”

It’s unclear at this point what a potential timeline is for the series to air, or if it’s even guaranteed to grace your plasma, but the deal was apparently packaged by CAA, which represents Lurie, the producers and the book.
