Have an entire day off ahead of you? We recommend paying a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts.

Per tradition, the museum is free and open to the public today from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The day will include hosted tours, story hours, art making and performances. Guests who come to the museum today will also be among the first to see the special photography exhibition, Gordon Parks: Back to Fort Scott, featuring the work done by the celebrated African American photographer. It will also be one of the last chances to visit the popular ongoing exhibition Goya: Order and Disorder.

The celebration will also feature a community art display, showcasing student artwork commemorating King’s legacy (pictured above). Artist Helen Metaferia will be featuring her performance art piece, a “first-generation, Ethiopian-American experience through wearable sculpture and installation,” per the press release. More performances by local artists will continue during the morning and afternoon.

The free admission on MLK Day began in 2003, and nearly 80,000 visitors have arrived at the museum to celebrate the holiday in the years since. Free admission is sponsored by Citizens Bank.
