Since it’s summer, it’s the season to do everything outdoors. From eating on patios to drinking on rooftops and working out in the park, if it can be done outside you can bet you’ll find a way to do it here in Boston. And while the movie theater is a great place to catch some AC in the summer, watching movies outside after sundown is one of the best ways to spend a summer night.

Tonight, the 2014 season of the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell‘s Free Friday Flicks series begins, and it will continue nearly every week through the summer. While most films are family-oriented, I’m going to suggest that you don’t turn down a chance to see The Lego Movie outside on the Esplanade.

Each year, the outdoor movie nights attract thousands of guests who are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair, pack a picnic and enjoy the show. All movies begin at sundown, but guests are encouraged to arrive early for free food samples, games and giveaways from WBZ News Radio.

The 2014 DCR Hatch Shell Free Friday Flicks schedule is below, so start planning your outdoor movie nights:

June 20: Monsters University

July 11: Despicable Me 2

July 18: The Goonies

July 25: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2

August 1: Men in Black 3

August 8: The Lego Movie

August 15: Beetlejuice

August 22: Frozen
