The holiday weekend is almost here, folks! And fortunately for us, there’s no shortage of events happening over the next three days in Boston. So many, in fact, that you really have no reason to leave the city limits (who needs a beach?).

And if you’re looking to save a dime this holiday weekend, (and avoid dropping $100 on gas), we recommend hitting up some nearby free events. Below, we’ve rounded up five of the best free Memorial Day events happening this weekend.

The Massachusetts Military Heroes Garden of Flags

Not only is a walk through the Boston Common free, but you’ll also get to experience the amazing display of flags – 37,000 of them to be exact. The flags are planted beside the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Boston Common and will be on display through Monday, May 26.

Cambridge Historical Tours Offers a Memorial Day Tour

If you’re looking for a unique way to honor those who have fought for our freedom, we recommend joining Cambridge Historical Tours for one of their free “Honor the Brave-The Fallen Heroes Tour.” Participants will be lead through several different stops including Harvard Yard, Cambridge Common and the Old Burying Ground. The tours are offered at different times throughout the weekend, so register for yours before they’re full.

Boston Clawing

Many of you will be partying it up this weekend at the Boston Calling festival. If so, we recommend hitting up the after-party at Ned Devine’s to see local band Tigerman Whoa! The free post-festival party starts at 6 p.m. – so don’t be late!

MFA Open House

What would Memorial Day be in Boston without free admission to the MFA? This Monday, May 26 the MFA will offer free access to the museum as well as special performances and more. Free admission is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Honor & Tribute: Boston’s 2nd Annual Memorial Day Concert

Join Mayor Marty Walsh and the City of Boston Veteran’s Services for a free outdoor concert at Christopher Columbus Park. You must, however, register to reserve seats ahead of time, as it will surely fill up quickly. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
