Babson is well known for its student entrepreneurs. In fact, fourteen of this year’s 125 MassChallenge finalists are either current students or recent alums (that’s over 11% — impressive given MassChallenge received submissions from 24 countries and 34 states).

Last year this entrepreneurially focused college announced they would be opening an incubator on campus for student ventures. This 10-week, intensive program is open to both Babson graduates and undergraduates as well as students at Olin College of Engineering, as the two colleges reside right next to one another and have bridged some of their curriculum and student organizations. The incubator is designed to help these student ventures build a “foundation for success.”

Teams work out of the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship right on the college’s campus, providing them access to top notch faculty — most of whom are serial entrepreneurs themselves. These teams are also offered free housing at Babson, mentors, a speaker series and other resources. To get a sense of Babson’s goals and mission related to the Summer Venture Program, the college produced a professional video last summer with entrepreneurial faculty and venture teams outlining the ten week program. Unfortunately that video is not embedable, so you’ll have to click through here to view it. The program culminates with a Demo Day in front of area investors (mark your calendars for the afternoon of Thursday, July 28th for their Demo Day).

Congratulations to the accepted 2011 Babson Summer Venture Program Teams – we look forward to following your development! Of note is that only two of the ten startups are led by undergraduates.
