In a city that gets a bad rap for its weather, it might seem ludicrous to seek out frosty climates for a “cold one.” But in the words of Vanilla Ice, “stop, collaborate and listen” — because Frost Ice Bar is not something you should be missin’.

According to Frost Ice Bar’s Facebook page, it’s been “…a labor of love” from inception to the final creation of “the world’s largest and permanent indoor ice bar.” Four years (and a lot of chiseling) later, I can now say to the BostInno readers that it’s been well worth your wait.

Yesterday, my colleague, Taylor Sauer, and I braved the 21-degree Fahrenheit climes draped in the provided insulated cape and massive gloves (bonus: don’t need a coat check) for a sneak peak into Faneuil Hall’s coolest new addition — located on the third floor of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, right above that American Eagle you probably haven’t patronized in a while.

Dressed in my yeti-like attire, I was awestruck by Frost Ice Bar’s chill ambiance — literally: Everything from the glassware, the walls, the bar, the chandeliers and even the furniture is carved from ice. Did I mention there are frozen duckies, frozen paintings, a colorful frozen fish tank, a massive frozen swan and … well, I won’t give it all away. You’ll have to check it out for yourself.

But ladies, don’t make my mistake of wearing flat shoes that don’t cover the tops of your feet. Socks, boots, sneakers would probably be best. And, just in case you forget, the ice bar offers boots that resemble Uggs. Let’s call them Frost Fuggs.

Even if sitting in a room filled with ice really isn’t your thing, Frost Ice Bar’s impressive list of uniquely handcrafted cocktails (sans rocks) should be incentive enough to check out the scene. Just as their website suggests, I have a feeling many a bachelor/bachelorette party, birthday celebrations and “mystery adventures” (not really sure what that means) will be had here. The bartenders were friendly, and luckily, the photographers were on hand to capture our experience (left) — which meant the gloves stayed on.

Despite hating the cold with a fiery passion (#southern), I didn’t mind the freezing temps because I held a one-of-a-kind Boston-themed frozen concoction called “The Old North Ender.”  This cocktail, served in a rounded cocktail glass sculpted entirely of ice, well exceeded my expectations.

A few of their handcrafted concoctions include:

The Green Way– Ty Ku Citrus Liqueur, Ty Ku Soju, Green Tea, Lavender syrup

The Old North Ender– Reyka Vodka, Lemon Sorbet, Westport Rivers Sparkling Wine, Pallini Limoncello

The Dynasty – Triple 8 Bourbon, Cointreau, Angostura & Peychauds Bitters, Westport Rivers Sparkling Wine

Just to name a few.

The Frost Ice bar will be open seven days a week, beginning with the first entry at noon and the last entry at 11pm. Tickets to the ice bar cost $18.99 for general admission and $16.99 for students, military and seniors. The maximum stay is 45 minutes (nothing kills a good buzz like hypothermia) and you’ll need to reserve your tickets ahead of time.
