As the alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date nears, it was announced today that Samsung will begin to make 3GB memory chips for its upcoming smartphone. The Note 3 has been pegged for a release at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, Germany, though there’s been no total confirmation from Samsung. Either way, with the possibility of 3GB of RAM in Samsung’s upcoming line of handsets is enough to make users salivate.

According to Android Authority, Samsung has already started production of a 3GB chip that could be incorporated into smartphones during the second half of the year, a timeline that snuggly coincides with the possible Galaxy Note 3 release. So likely is it, in fact, that the Note 3 will boast a commanding 3GB of memory that the same source pegged the Note 3 specifically to be one of the first devices to carry the next-gen chip.

3GB of RAM is nothing ground breaking as the LG G2 is thought to sport the same amount, though very few, if any, smartphones are on par with those two. The iPhone 5, one of the more popular smartphones on the market, currently runs 1GB of memory though that’s unlikely to last. Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5S is rumored to be outfitted with only 2GB of memory. Samsung’s own flagship, the Galaxy S4, also currently runs on 2GB.

And while plenty of memory is impressive and will allow for a more dextrous smartphone experience, the rest of the speculated specifications are just as juicy.

According to GottaBeMobile, users should expect “a 5.7-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor of the Exynos 5 Octa or Snapdragon 800 variety, 13MP camera, and some type of design upgrade. Rumors have indicated that Samsung may be thinking about deploying several Galaxy Note 3 models including premium and cheap variants. And since its CES unveiling, there has been talk of a flexible display coming on board the Galaxy Note 3 as well.”

A 13MP camera will allow the device to compete with the overhauled photo technology of the likes of Nokia and its Lumia 1020, while its phablet-sized 5.7-inch display would appeal to those who enjoy a bulkier device.
