Since early May, Samsung has let tech writers and loyal users writhe in suspense as if it purposefully dangled leaked spec after leak spec of the Galaxy S4 Mini in front of their eyes. Finally we can be put at ease. Samsung officially confirmed the Galaxy S4 Mini for July this morning in a press release, though only across the pond in Jolly Old England  for now.

Speculations have been abound since leaked photos of the GS4 Mini appeared earlier this month. The handset appeared at first to be nothing more than a miniature version of the lauded Galaxy S4, which is perfectly fine seeing as how the GS4 has been highly praised since its release in April, and in a press release this morning Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, confirmed exactly that.

“With a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy S4 Mini offers stunning images and content. At just 107g, the lightweight and compact design enables you to carry and use the device easily with one hand. The Galaxy S4 Mini also boasts powerful performance, equipped with a 1.7GHz dual core processor and supports many of the same intuitive features as the Galaxy S4, designed to enhance different aspects of life.”

Other fun features include the S Translator using text or voice recognition to decipher emails, texts, and chats; WatchON’s IR remote transforms the device into a remote to control your home entertainment systems; and Samsung Link in select countries to share content across multiple Samsung digital services and platforms.

Color will be available in white and black initially and there’s been no official word on price. The press release notes, however, that Phones 4U in the U.K. will begin stocking the device in July.

We’ll be keeping you up to date on when the GS4 Mini is expected to arrive in the Americas, but in the meantime let us know what you think of the device so far. Do you think it will be able to compete with other more compact smartphones out there? Is this a good follow up to the heralded Galaxy S4?
