Earlier this year Google signed a deal with Warner Music Group in what some pundits felt was a move towards a music streaming service, similar to rival Spotify. Yesterday, Google reportedly signed similar deals with Sony Music Entertainment and and Universal Music Group giving Google agreements with the three largest record labels.

The Verge wrote last night,

“According to reports, Google’s subscription services would resemble Spotify, and offer on-demand songs that would be streamed to their PCs and mobile devices. In contrast, Apple is working on an online radio service that is said to be more akin to Pandora, a service that plays songs at random”

Apple is supposedly working on a streaming service as well though will now be outshone by Google. Google’s service would likely be put on its YouTube platform which is a dominator when it comes to playing music and watching videos, pulling in an estimated 800 million unique visitors a month. Google also recently launched channel subscriptions for YouTube at an easily affordable $0.99 per month.

The New York Times also got its hands on some insider information from Google writing, when it comes to a price for the new streaming service, “The subscription rate was not known, but was expected to be similar to that of Spotify and other competing services like Rhapsody and Rdio, about $10 a month.”

With a rate on par with its competitors, Google is likely to be introducing some kind of awesome technological innovation in the music streaming realm in order to pull away from the pack. Hmm, music streaming for Google Glass perhaps? Or via a smartwatch? Fret not, we’ll likely find out this afternoon.

What do you all think of a Google music streaming service? Is there any chance you would ditch Spotify or Pandora for Google’s version? Even though Pandora is free, do you think Google’s offering would be worth the estimated $10 per month?
