The Hangover Part III finally hit the silver screen yesterday and the reviews for the third and final installment of one of the highest-grossing R-rated comedy series of all time are starting to roll in. The film reunites the wolfpack for a third time, though per the reviews, the wolfpack may just be a tired trio of dull, decrepit, derelict dogs.

It looks as if The Hangover Part III may have gone the way of the cringe-worthy The Godfather Part III, only the 3rd installment of Todd Phillips’ raucous comedy didn’t have an Academy Award winning predecessor to steal any optimism from. According to IMDB, the plot follows “aftermath of the death of Alan’s father, the wolfpack decide to take Alan to get treated for his mental issues. But things start to go wrong on the way to the hospital as the wolfpack is assaulted and Doug is kidnapped.”

It was only natural that the fans and director/writer/producer Todd Phillips would want a follow up the drunkenly awesome The Hangover, which owned the box office at the time of its release the way the same way Mr. Chow owns the Las Vegas underground, with two sequels though both follow ups are proving to be far less successful.

The common consensus among critics is that the storyline is overdone, the character antics are predictable, and it simply isn’t funny. While I’ll hold out personal judgement until I see it myself, here are a few reviews for those looking for a second opinion before dropping a few bucks at the movies. Spoiler Alert: a slew of just-as-obvious hangover jokes by these wanna be-witty critics are sure to follow.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone– “The first movie left you with an exhilarating rush. All that Part III leaves is, well, a hangover.”

Michael O’ Sullivan, Washington Post– “Coupled with its logic headaches, it left me feeling like I needed an Alka-Seltzer Plus. Anything to add a little fizzy relief to these flat and unfunny proceedings.”

Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine– “The Hangover Part III gives off such a stench of creative decay that it hardly seems possible that even Phillips or his co-writers have any use for the movie themselves.”

Rene Rodriguez, Miami Herald– “This odious, mean-spirited movie appropriates the title and the characters from the previous pictures and sends them on a would-be adventure involving gangsters, gold bars and that pinnacle of hilarity, decapitated giraffes.”

For those who have already seen the flick, hit us with your own amateur review. Did Part III make you laugh at all? Was it a waste of money? Is it a must see?
