Harvard Business School students Sonali Mathur and Leah Tucker have plenty of friends with children and know that there’s a huge market for maternity and baby clothing. This past fall, Mathur and Tucker conducted an HBS field study on the baby industry. What they found is that it is hard to find unique clothing for both mom-to-be and children.  Busy, cosmopolitan mothers spend a lot of money on their kids because it counts as a double compliment to both their baby and them. There are plenty of cute boutiques for babies but they don’t have the advertising dollars to reach moms outside their community. Mathur and Tucker think they have come up with the solution for both businesses and consumers by creating a members-only shopping community called Poshling.com.

This new online shopping community will empower moms to celebrate and recommend their favorite brands and request limited-time deals. Poshling, a members-only private sale website, will launch its inaugural sale next month.  During “by-request” private sales, Poshling members will access discounts on designer maternity brands and adorable children’s products that they and other moms have voted for.

Poshling’s limited-time sales will feature brands such as Belabumbum, the luxury maternity lingerie and children’s wear designer. “Belabumbum is the first brand that was nominated on our pre-launch website,” said Poshling co-founder Leah Tucker.  When we contacted Belabumbum founder Alyssa Weiss, she was thrilled to participate in Poshling’s inaugural sale.” Belabumbum has been worn by celebrity moms such as Halle Berry and Kate Hudson.

This site is the first crowdsourcing concept focused exclusively on baby and maternity products.  “We founded Poshling to help busy, stylish moms request exclusive deals and discover adorable brands without having to leave home.  We won’t stop here.  We’ll be adding new features to make it even easier for members to request and access exclusive Poshling deals,” said co-founder Sonali Mathur. Poshling will deliver boutique and designer apparel and accessories to new and expecting moms at sample sale prices. Free membership is available at www.poshling.com.

Poshling already has over a dozen vendors. They plan to have their beta launch on www. facebook.com next month. They are currently out meeting with venture capital firms trying to get funding so they can invest in tech development and marketing.
