It’s now 90 days until we close the longest mayoral chapter in Boston’s esteemed history and as the transition towards a new helmsman of The Hub continues to ratchet up, we’re hard pressed not to reminisce over the tenure of Thomas Menino — the only mayor many of us have ever known.

Acquiescing his promise to blog about his progression out of the municipal arena, Menino recently posted a flow chart showing the “the structure and responsibility” of city departments and offices.

You’ll notice in the following slides that under Mayor Flynn, Menino’s predecessor, departments reported directly to him. Under Menino, the landscape changed in that he preferred to surround himself with something of a cabinet where all subordinates reported to them, respectively.
