Your Mac can help you work more efficiently. All you need to know how to do is enable a few built-in Mac settings and access the Mac app store to download apps. Here are five ways to customize your Mac screen (and even your secondary or cinema display), from basic to more advanced:

Enable Expose or ‘Hot Corners’

Expose is a built-in feature on your Mac but many people don’t realize they can enable  hot corners on your Mac screen. With expose enabled, quickly swiping your cursor into any of the four corners of your screen sets in motion a predefined action like accessing your desktop or spreading all your applications open across the screen for easy navigation. You can customize this by going to System Preferences > Expose & Spaces.

Enable Spaces

Spaces is another built-in feature on your Mac. It allows you to set up four desktop spaces, allowing you to separate and group things in distinct spaces. This is perfect for people who use their Mac for a mix of work, personal, hobbies, and media. Keyboard shortcuts will help you access the different spaces in a breeze. You can customize this by going to System Preferences > Expose & Spaces.

Customize Your Dock with SuperDocker

SuperDocker is a free app (although not in the Mac Store) that allows you to customize the look of your dock, and even things like Finder, iCal, and Safari. A lot of the features in this app are built-in but hidden in settings. This application organizes them in one place and allows you to customize the style of each feature.

Download BetterSnapTool Mac App

BetterSnapTool in the Mac Store is a $1.99 app that allows you enable and customize window snapping features. If you drag a window – browser window, application, document, etc. – to the left or right of your screen, half the screen will highlight. By dropping the window there, it will automatically re-size to fit that space and half your screen.

Download SecondBar Mac App (Only for Secondary / Cinema Display)

SecondBar is a Mac app for your cinema display. The app allows you to have an additional Apple menu bar on your second screen. On top of this, Second Bar allows you to enable and customize keyboard shortcuts to snap windows and applications to different areas of the screen.
