When you have a smash hit smartphone on your hands, the next move as a manufacturer is to condense it into a smaller size. Samsung is doing it with its Galaxy S4 and subsequent Galaxy S4 mini and now HTC is doing it too. Estonian site forte.delfi.ee got their hands on a slew of early HTC One Mini leaked pics and specs ahead of the supposed August launch. The perpetual leak twitter handle @evleaks gave us a glimpse of the HTC One Mini (aka HTC M4, the HTC One was dubbed the M7) back in early May but now the details are slightly more defined.

If accurate, the initial specs look up to snuff with the HTC One mini’s big brother. For viewing pleasure it boasts a 4.3-inch 720p display, will run on a dual-core processor, feature 2GB of RAM, offer 16GB of internal storage space, and feature a 4mp camera complete with UltraPixel technology. It is thought the device will run on Android 4.2.2 but its only speculation at this point.

The UltraPixel technology will be a big draw for amateur photographers using the M4 as this HTC innovation combines a greater capture of photons with an autofocus lens and image stabilization. However, back in May it was thought the handset would carry both a 13mp rear facing shooter and a 1.6mp front. Stay tuned for the latest on which the new HTC creation will sport.

The HTC One is the Taiwanese-based electronics producer’s best piece of telecommunications technology out there today but it just isn’t enough to save the flailing company. HTC has been struggling both internally and on the sales front, so a miniaturized version of its best-seller might be just what they need to keep afloat. Five leading executives based in the U.S. have since left the company, all within weeks of each other. What exactly is going on is still unknown though reports did indicate CEO Peter Chou could be to blame because of his rash decision making and lack of vision.

Sales for the HTC One were decent but not enough to aid the company in such times of peril. From its launch in late March–even April for some markets–the HTC One sold a respectable 5 million units. Though those numbers are mere child’s play compared to the iPhone 5, which sold 5 million units in its first three days, or the Samsung Galaxy S4, which sold 10 million units in its first month, they’re decent for HTC which doesn’t control a market share the same way Apple or Samsung does. The HTC One Mini could easily bolster their numbers as people liked the technology and power of the One, though the GS4 Mini numbers may be a good indicator of how the M4 fares.
