The HTC One will launch on Verizon on August 22, despite all of the limelight and attention being focused on Apple’s iPhone 5S and Samsung’s Galaxy Note III as of late. Considered to be on par with the upper-echelon of high-end smartphones, the HTC One will cost an industry norm of $199 with a two-year contract subsidy. A smaller version, the HTC One Mini will launch the following day on the same carrier for $99 with the same contractual agreement.

Tech pundits agree almost universally that the HTC One is one of the top-tier handsets to be made available in the U.S. on Thursday, August 22. Most importantly though, is that HTC future as an electronics manufacturer is contingent upon solid sales numbers of its flagship smartphone. The company recently hired actor Robert Downey Jr. of Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man fame to headline its new HTChange marketing campaign after poor sales figures and personnel issues have threatened to derail the company’s future.

But lucky for them, their cornerstone device has been highly touted and will be added to Verizon’s arsenal, a good spot for it seeing as how Verizon typically offers the most value for the customer.

So for those waiting for the One to hit the retail shelves, here’s what you can expect. The One boasts a 4.7-inch display screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, Full HD, and 469dpi pixel density; a Camera with a 4MP sensor despite most smartphone efforts being heightened in this aspect; a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APW8064T 1700 MHz processor; 2GB of RAM; and 32GB of internal storage, of which 26 GB should be readily available to the user.

The HTC One Mini doesn’t stray too much from this norm. It will be taking cues in robustness from its big brother and allegedly sport a 4.3-inch 720p display, run on a dual-core processor, feature 2GB of RAM, offer 16GB of internal storage space, and boast a 4mp camera complete with UltraPixel technology.

As for the mobile operating system, look for the Android 4.2.2 version of Jelly Bean. HTC had been plagued with release delays which would explain the 4.2.2 version seeing as how Google recently released Android 4.3. Still updates will likely be made available for both devices, so worry not ye Droid faithful.
