The rumors are confirmed. HTC has finally announced its latest smartphone, the HTC One X+. The Taiwanese technology manufacturer made the announcement at a press event across the pond in the UK. HTC confirmed that the gadget will be carried by AT&T and possibly T-Mobile. While the One X+ price and release date are still up in the air, HTC will be launching a world tour this month starting in Europe and North Asia, followed closely by South Asia in November, and finally will be making an appearance in the United States. AT&T will also carry HTC’s new One VX which will be a slightly lower-end, though most likely cheaper, version of the One X+.

The specs on the One X+ can certainly vie with the iPhone 5 and Galaxy series, smartphones manufactured by Apple and Samsung respectively. The two companies have the largest stranglehold on the smartphone market; the U.S. market is one that HTC hasn’t quite been able to get a handle on yet though it did team up with Microsoft in mid-September to unleash to collaborative phones.

The HTC One X+ will run on Android’s 4.1 OS (the Jelly Bean) . Speed and efficiency will be courtesy of a 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processing chipset and 2,100mAh battery. The screen a 4.7 inch 1280 x 720 LCD display with 312 ppi for maximum clarity. Unlike the highly-popular iPhone 5, the One X+ will have NFC capabilities.

Besides the internal changes, not much else seems to differ from its predecessor. Some notable features include new camera apps, such as Sightseeing and Self Portrait, which allow the user to quickly access the camera when the phone is locked and also to take and edit self-taken pics.

There is no confirmed price for the HTC One X+ yet nor is there a confirmed release date. The World Tour will likely land in the U.S. by some time in December with online tech publication PC Magazine noting that it will be here “for the holidays.”
