The 2014 Boston Marathon kicks off on Monday, April 21. Upgraded security measures dictate that no bicycles will be allowed to park along the route, including those of Hubway. Bike-share stations in Brookline, Brighton and the Back Bay, therefore, won’t be opened until after the annual race comes to a close.

According to the Boston Athletic Association, bikes and other like vehicles will be prohibited from the Marathon course, the BAA 5K and the BAA’s half marathon later in October.

The following Hubway stations will be deployed after Maraton Monday:

Brookline:

  • Coolidge Corner – Beacon St @ Centre St
  • Washington Square at Washington St. / Beacon St

Boston:

  • Newbury St / Hereford St
  • Boylston at Fairfield
  • Boylston St / Berkeley St
  • Boston Public Library – 700 Boylston St.
  • New Balance Experience Store – Boylston / Dartmouth
  • Charles St at Beacon St

Hubway officially opened earlier in April to cater to those hoping to enjoy a temperate bike ride while Boston continues to slowly remove itself from the throes of winter. At that time they also announced that they’d be rolling out more stations in the forthcoming weeks, as well as new ones in neighborhoods not accustomed to bike-share programs, like Jamaica Plain and Dorchester.

“These stations are expected to be deployed the week of April 22nd, but the schedule is subject to change,” wrote Hubway on its blog.
