The latest Apple rumor running rampant throughout the internet is that the Cupertino electronics maker will be hosting a new October 15 press event where it may release the long-awaited iPad 5. The gossip comes just a week after Tim Cook and company showcased the latest iPad 5S and iPad 5C smartphone lineup, both of which is available on September 20.

9to5Mac got the information from the French tech blog Mac Generation which coincides quite nicely with 9to5mac’s previous claims that the fifth-generation iPad with Retina display and the second-generation iPad mini (possibly with Retina display) would take place in October rather than that of the recent iPhone event.

Along with both iPad variants, we could also see the new flagship operating system OS X 10.9 Mavericks as well as Apple TV upgrade during the showcase.

But really the big draw, should speculations on the event prove to be true, will be the iPads. Though specs for both devices are scarce at this point in time, we’ve learned from leaked photos and details that the 5th-gen iPad with Retina display will boast a 9.7-inch screen and borrow thin bezel design cues from the current iPad mini. Conversely, the 2nd-gen iPad mini’s screen will measure 7.9-inches.

Recent photos can attest to as much, though they only display the backplate and sides though pits both tablet versions up against each other side by side.

Both will run on iOS 7, which is available for a free download on September 18.

An interesting addition, though completely unofficial with no mention made of such whatsoever, would be the inclusion of the iPhone 5S’s latest innovation: Touch ID. Apple’s new authentication measure, Touch ID is a fingerprint sensor embedded within the 5S’s sapphire home button to recognize the respective user without the possibility of compromising the password.

Stay tuned to BostInno for the latest leading up tho this purported event and we’ll be sure to try and confirm (or deny) any rumors along the way. In the meantime, let us know what you think about the upcoming iPad lineup in the comments section below.
