The low-cost iPhone, now called the iPhone 5C, is to be released this fall and while specs are scarce, it’s become apparent that the device may carry a viable 8mp camera. The new leaked photo emerged this afternoon just days after snapshots of the iPhone 5C’s backplate and colorful collection of cases surfaced in similar fashion.

Though Apple has yet to officially confirm the utter existence of the iPhone 5C, the latest pics suggest otherwise. Apple is indeed gearing up for a budget friendly handset, though what kind of computing power and features it will boast are still in question.

What we know as of today is that the iPhone 5C is likely to sport an 8mp camera, as evidenced by the photo above. By tossing an 8mp shooter on its mid-range device, Apple is saying without saying that the upcoming next-generation flagship iPhone 5S will boast a more impressive piece of photo technology. As of now, many are expecting at least a 12mp cam for the 5S. The current iPhone 5 uses an 8mp HD video camera.

Besides the camera, very little has been disclosed about the iPhone 5C. Production photos have pointed towards a colorful range of plastic cases. Mac Rumors is pegging the device to cost somewhere in the $450 and $550 without subsidy, which they note will be lowered once a carrier and contract are attached to an easily affordable $99, approximately.

When it comes to the gadget’s release date, there’s just as much speculation. Two conflicting reports are in question here. There’s one, that was announced just earlier this week which pegs both iPhone variants to launch on September 6, which would make a release date sometime in late August.

A more credible report from KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo a week prior forecasted that both phones would launch in late September, meaning a mid-September release event would be more likely. Apple has a history of launching its most popular products in September and, being the creature of habit that the Cupertino conglomerate is, isn’t likely to change that any time soon.
