The Apple rumor mill is almost always spinning but now its working in overdrive as a new photo leak shows the low-cost iPhone’s plastic shell, meaning that a low-cost iPhone is actually coming into fruition. Tech pundits were taking the rumors with a grain of salt, but now it looks is if they’ve finally been confirmed as the plastic shell falls in line with previous speculations that have been swirling around for months.

Mac Rumors initially obtained the photos from French site Nowhereelse.frThe images show the rear plastic shell in a variety of colors but more specifically display a rounded rear microphone hole and rounded rear edges, aspects that are consistent with previous accounts of the supposed low-cost handset.

When it comes to under the hood specs though, very little has been disclosed by Apple about the low-cost iPhone or even the next-generation flagship iPhone 5S. The 5S is thought to be outfitted with dual LED flash cameras, an upgraded A7 processor chip, and double the pixels of the current-generation iPhone 5 which may double from 730,000 pixels to 1.5 million.

We also know that the iPhone 5S will operate on Apple’s new iOS 7 mobile operating system, which debuted last month at the Cupertino-based conglomerate’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) to much hype and much fanfare. The overhauled OS is completely different on the surface with a number of upgraded features on the technical side. The user interface was completely redesigned by Jony Ive, the iOS team, and members of the OS X team in order for iOS 7 to ship in time for WWDC. Despite working down to the wire it looks as if Apple will make good on its promise for a more user-friendly and engaging UI, though keep in mind iOS 7 is still in beta for developers and we won’t be able to sink our teeth into it until its release this fall.
