This week in new iPhone 5s release date and specs news highlights a new color option and system on a chip (SoS) processing speeds for Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone. The internet has been buzzing as of late due to Apple’s decision to afford its users some serious bling; a gold iPhone 5S. Adding to the elation is the new A7 processor which is being reported as approximately 31% faster than the current A6 for a smoother user-experience.

The new iPhone 5S graphite snapshots come courtesy of Sonny Dickinson and his website which obtained photos from an unidentified source. We know now that Apple plans on increasing its color arsenal from the traditional black and white to now include gold and graphite, two bold colors that tastefully toe the line between flashy and sophisticated.

The new A7 SoS processor has made its way to the forefront of the Apple rumor forum thanks to a tweet last night from Clayton Morris of Fox News who claims the A7 is up to 31% faster than the A6. Coupled with the new iOS 7 interface overhaul, the upgraded processing speed is expected to make animations, effects, multitasking, and other complex functions all the smoother.

When it comes to cold, hard specs though, we have little else to offer. Initial leaked photos of the gold iPhone 5S came with speculation that Apple would also be releasing its next-gen handset with up to 128GB of internal storage, an unprecedented move for any smartphone as they rarely ever go above 32GB.

It is also been thought to feature a fingerprint sensor embedded within the home button — which may or may not be of convex form — likely for authentication and security measures, but could Apple have an ace up its sleeve by, for example, somehow cross-syncing the new technology to make a one-time fingerprint authentication applicable to all passwords on one’s Apple account? Just my two cents.

The iPhone 5S will also carry a 4-inch IGZO display, a 12MP rear-facing camera, and a dual-LED flash with ƒ/2.0 lens. Keep an eye out for 16Gb and 32GB variants and, of course, iOS 7 and all of the features it has to offer.

Word is that Apple is gearing up for a September 10 press event during which it’s expected to debut its iPhone 5S, low-cost iPhone 5C, iOS 7, and possibly new iPad and iPad mini series. Seeing as how Apple has yet to say boo on anything at this point, we’ll have to take the Sept 10 release date with a grain of salt but as there’s no other date being tossed around, we have it circled on our calendar nonetheless.
